 American Wilderness
4 x 1 hours & 1 x half hour

Discover the wonders of America's spectacular wilderness in this amazing new five-part series. Peter Roberts' acclaimed photography reveals the drama and splendor of America's wildlife, from the volcanic peaks of Washington State to the underwater marvels of the California coast, through the sweltering heat of summer to the deadly ice blasts of winter. This magnificent wildlife footage never before seen on television intimately portrays the private lives of endangered species and reveals the magical beauty of true American Wilderness.

Pacific Coast Sea Otters

Explore the pristine waters that flow along the Californian Coast with the lovable sea otter. Dive with the otters as they swim through underwater kelp forests in search of abalone, sea urchins, sea snails and other food. Glide over the waves with the majestic brown pelican and visit secluded beaches where harbor seals retreat to raise their young.

Natural Majesty

The story of life on the slopes of one of America's tallest mountains, an environment of dazzling beauty and extremes of climate. Glaciers and ice fields hold the summit in perpetual white enchantment. Mountain goats overlook brilliantly flowerier mountains teeming with deer, marmots, butterflies and birds. A dipper feeds along a lush alpine stream; crashing waterfalls rush through the ancient forests, home of the spotted owl and sparring elk.

Spirits of the Sky

The story of a family of bald eagles, this remarkable film records the life cycle of this glorious bird of prey. Beginning with the adults' return to their traditional nest site, renewing their bond, tenderly protecting their eggs and chicks, hunting for food, and finally coaxing the young out of the nest and into flight.

Spirit of the West

Escape to the American West and the world of the wild horse. High on a cloud shrouded plateau, a young stallion trots back and forth in search of a mare, the ever-vigilant black stallion stands watch, his herd safely hidden from the young intruder. Snow gently filters through the forest branches onto a sleeping colt as the storm moves closer. All the scenes from this stunning film follow a herd of wild horses as they battle with the elements, fight, forage and frolic in spectacular western wilderness landscapes.

Jewels of the North

Spend some time with a family of common loons, from the day the adults return to their nesting island, to the day they lead their chicks away. The haunting call of these exquisite birds has long been considered confirmation of true northern wilderness. The program features incredible behaviors never before captured on film, including the young chicks' violent exchange upon their first meeting and a flight between the male loon and a beaver. "Jewels of the North" is a truly unique look into the nesting cycle of one of our most beloved birds.
